WELCOME TO THE JVZ BEACON
Julie

Please be patient as we update this site...

Julie VanZevern is a medical missionary working in Zimbabwe.

Serving how long?

In the summer of 2004 I served as a nurse in Zimbabwe, Africa at Karanda Mission Hospital but several years prior to this I had participated in other short-term mission trips. Traveling to many countries it was apparent that Africa was where my heart was and where God had led me to serve as a career Medical Missionary. I was accepted into the "TEAM" family in April of 2005. Although my time as a missionary has been relatively short I know God has been preparing me for this incredible opportunity to serve Him all my life. I'm called a "finisher" one who enters the ministry of missions as a seasoned adult. I'm also "homegrown." Center Point as my sending church, has nurtured, encouraged and supported my efforts every step of the way.

Main focus of ministry?

First as a Christian and then as a nurse I'm bound by overwhelming compassion and inspired by hope. I'm passionately challenged to strengthen, promote and enhance the love of Christ. Actively engaged in combating AIDS through involvement in a variety of urban and rural settings: Church community and orphan homes, feeding programs and preschools, my days are long. Zimbabwe, a war torn country, suffering under despotism faces severe hardships (AIDS, Poverty, Starvation). The love for these people touches the core of my soul and seeing lives transformed by Christ is pivotal to my ministry.   Many profess to be Christians but have no real understanding of the Gospel. Medical missions is one of the greatest evangelistic tools to bring light to where only darkness has prevailed.

Goals for future of ministry?

  • to empower nationals in decision making, utilizing Gods given resources to provide for basic human needs
  • to continue establishing relationships by responding to Christ's calling to love our neighbors as ourselves
  • to respond to the AIDS crisis with compassion, advocacy and responsibility (including church involvement)
  • to educate orphan homes, staff( & children), and feeding programs in growing sustainable vegetable and herbal gardens.

Life Update

Obedience reveals the truth and He's been faithful in showing me the way. April, 2009 I returned to Zimbabwe because I got my work permit approved!. Patiently waiting I rest in knowing Him, continually growing in my faith and learning new ways in which to serve.

But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.  II Cor.12 9-10
